EMILIA ASIM…a woman making a difference

Emilia loves to bring ideas to life, read and write, and is passionate about learning, meeting and connecting people.

She has garnered experience in all facets of the Integrated Marketing Communication gamut (especially print, electronic and digital media), youth development and specialised media communications. A graduate (MSc. & BSc.) of Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, she has completed various training programmes on Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental & Social Risk Management, Corporate Reporting, Development Communications, Corporate Governance and Executive Coaching amongst many others.

For the past seven years, she has worked on the Strategy and External Relations portfolios for ThistlePraxis Consulting as Senior Consultant and is daily responsible for developing strategy for all client briefs, internal projects and initiatives. In this role, she also supervises liaison with partners, clients and the firm’s impressive faculty of experts across the world. In addition, Emilia doubles as the Managing Editor of CSR Files™, a bouquet of information and resource products. She joined ThistlePraxis Consulting Limited in July 2010 as Managing Consultant with the responsibility for developing the brand blueprint, set up and rollout of operations. Emilia also oversees the Strategy & External Relations portfolios for all subsidiary firms of Thistle Group of Companies. Emilia is also the Founder of AML (A’Lime Media Limited), a content, talent and resource agency which evolved from a PR/Media Business founded in December 2010. AML provides services to local and international public, private and non-profit organisations through specialised practice areas in Business, Health, Education, Faith and Development.

Emilia cut her teeth in consulting working in the Youth Development and Media Sectors as a Co-Founder of The Future Awards/The Future Nigeria Project and was PR/Marketing Director for the convening organisation, RedSTRAT Communications (now RED Media) for six years before quitting the partnership in June 2010. Emilia was also Strategy & Communications Director, 3AL, Associate Producer and Content Director, The Academy and Amstel Malta Box Office Reality shows. She started her career as Presenter, Book Review Segment, Mind Your Grammar on NTA 2 Channel 5 before working as Presenter, Youth Talk with Emilia on NTA Network Service for five years. In addition, she also co-founded Development Diaries Ltd/GTE, a social enterprise and specialized media firm for the Development & Non-Profit Sector before exiting the Board in May 2017. Whilst there, she envisioned and led the advisory team for the development and roll-out of Social Media Awards Africa™ a premiere continent-wide initiative to reward the innovative and impactful use of social media and virtual platforms.

She is a mentor for Queens Young Leaders (YLP) Programme by Cambridge University, United Kingdom and both Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) and I.N.V.E.N.T. in Nigeria. Emilia is an Associate Fellow, Nigeria Leadership Initiative (NLI) and an advisory board member of TechPlus™, positioned as Nigeria’s largest technology exhibition and conference; and Guardians of the Nation International (GOTNI), USA. In September 2017, she was elected to serve on the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Advisory Council on Impact for a term of two (2) years after serving as Curator of the Lagos Hub. She also volunteers as a Patroness of the Girls’ Brigade, Youth Fellowship & Choir of the Methodist Church of the Trinity, Tinubu.

Emilia’s learning and research interests lie in digital media innovation, specialised communication, media ecology and cybernetics.
